Our Values
These values feed our conviction that things can be different and better. Individuals and communities rooted in hopefulness, honesty, care and connection can grow and flourish together, making good choices for planet and people, present and future.
-
In a time of discomfort, anxiety and doubt, hope matters. Hope is different from optimism. Hope is the belief that things aren’t as they could be. Hope looks for what is good and seeks to celebrate and build on what is worthwhile, however small or fragile.
-
Discovering what we as individuals and communities are for is life’s work . Belief in the vocation of all creation helps us to recognise that we are called to work with the earth and its resources so that the world, and we, can become what we were made to be. Vocation is Good News and vocational work is celebratory. Understanding that we are created with a purpose also requires us to accept that things can be different and directly contradicts some of the defeatist approaches to the climate crisis.
Vocation also reminds us that everyone is unique and worthwhile, and it demands that we find the courage to recognise that difference is something to celebrate.
-
Recognising our difference and our fragility means looking out for one another, hearing each other, encouraging each other and building one another up. Care extends to all of creation, inviting us to live as lightly as we can on this earth without taking on the burden of ‘fixing’ the world.
Everyone has the capacity to care, yet no-one has the capacity to care for all people or the whole planet all the time. Care can require wisdom and discernment in order to prioritise well. Part of our care is in recognising that trust can be misplaced or misused, and therefore committing to safeguarding practices.
-
At a time when division is growing, hope encourages us to connect to one another and to the planet we live on, its creatures, plants and environment. Seeking and celebrating connection matters. Building connection is collaborative and mutual, and cannot be forced on someone.

Candied Appeal CIC focuses on joyful change, encouraging exciting new habits and skills. We want our community to feel good about connection with others, with wisdom and about using the earth’s resources well. Being joyful is not about ignoring the challenges we face, but knowing that even in the face of them there is much to be joyful about.
