Candied Appeal is a mix of candid appeal and candied peel – representing our mission  to make living lightly on the earth sweet and appealing! The climate crisis demands a very candid approach to acknowledging that it is time for us, in this part of the world, to do things differently. But we know that the environmental challenges we face can feel overwhelming and that it is hard to change habits. Candied Appeal offers some enjoyable, life-giving ways to lessen our negative impact on the planet, and as our friends at Toast brewery say, to try and save the earth by “throwing a better party than those trying to destroy it!”

From the 13 – 17th centuries, the island of Crete was a Venetian Colony known as Candia. It is said that the people of Candia were known to waste nothing and developed the habit of soaking fruit peels in honey, creating delicious sweet treats, which as the Greek empire began to expand and new trade routes opened, made their way to Europe and beyond. This is where the name candy comes from and marks Candia as an early model of the circular economy.
